Bianca Andreescu Believes She Can “Get Back” to Winning Majors

A lot has been made about Bianca Andreescu’s return to professional tennis after an extended mental break from the sport. Many of us forget that she could have retired at 20 years old and still gone down as arguably the most successful Canadian singles player of all time.

“I do forget that [I won the US Open]” Bianca told me in our most recent chat in Berlin.

The unbelievable 2019 season for Andreescu juxtaposed to the lack of consistent play since due to injuries and the pandemic creates an unpredictable future for Bianca in the view of many fans.

From what she has told me, though, I believe she’s in the best place possible to build back to even a better place performance wise than she was in 2019.

How is Bianca Andreescu Doing?

“I’m very happy with how I’ve been dealing with everything. I know I didn’t have the best result at the French Open, but my mindset after I lose, just motivates me.”

Bianca has been working with legendary WTA coach Sven Groeneveld who she says is really helping her love grass more and also just build her game into the next stage of her career.

The mental side of tennis is usually what separates the good from the great in tennis. Bianca has already been great, showing nerves of steel at 19 defeating Serena Williams in the US Open final.

Outside of the matches is where she says she’s struggled with handling the results - something she’s been bravely honest about since her time away from the game.

“Last year, for instance, I’d want to take a few days off [after a loss] to like regroup, but this year I feel like the next day I just want to get back on the court, on the treadmill, whatever it takes to get better basically.
