Toronto, Montreal Set To Host Tennis World Again

It’s time for the pent up Canadian tennis energy to be released in full as the 2022 editions of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Toronto and Montreal will have full capacity for the first time since 2019.

The two great Canadian cities again share the hosting responsibilities for the ATP Master 1000 in Montreal at IGA Stadium and the WTA1000 in Toronto at Sobeys Stadium at York University.

Montreal Welcomes the ATP Tour in 2022

Denis Shapovalov certainly has fond memories in Montreal, where back in 2017 he announced himself on tour by upsetting Rafa Nadal in the R16 in one of the most memorable matches in Canadian history.

This year, Daniil Medvedev will be looking to defend his title as he won the Toronto edition of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in 2021.

Rafael Nadal has won the tournament 5 times, and will be anticipated to make another attempt at the title after he’s recovered from his abdominal injury that forced him out of Wimbledon.

Toronto Hosts the WTA in 2022

The top women’s tennis players in the world will descend on Toronto with what looks to be a star studded field.

Canada’s Bianca Andreescu is scheduled to play the night match on Tuesday, August 9th where the tournament looks to sell out Sobeys Stadium for fans who are eager to see tennis again in Toronto after a limited capacity in 2021.

Bianca did struggle with a sore lower back in her R1 defeat in San Jose on August 2nd, but she released on her Instagram that she is resting and ready to play in Toronto.

Serena Williams plans to use her Protected Ranking for entry into the main draw. Sister Venus will also join the draw after receiving a Wild Card into the 2022 tournament.

Tournament director Karl Hale is excited about the WTA field saying “When you read over that star-studded list, it’s hard not to get excited about the WTA Tour making its return to Sobeys Stadium.”

When is the draw for the National Bank Open released?

For the ATP in Montreal, the draw ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 5, 2022, between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM (the draw will start at 4 PM).

For the WTA in Toronto, the draw ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 5, 2022, between 4:30 PM and 7 PM (the draw will start at 5 PM)
