Andreescu Making Run At Miami Open

Bianca Andreescu is enjoying a much needed run of wins at the Miami Open, taking out two Major champions and a Top 10 player to make the R16.

Andreescu has a history of playing well down in Miami, also known as the Latin Slam. In 2021 the Canadian made the final where she got injured and was forced to retire the match to Ash Barty.

Having not played the tournament in 2022, Andreescu is getting points without having to defend any, which has already bumped her live ranking from #31 pre-tournament to at least #27.

In the first round, Andreescu dispatched 2021 US Open Champion Emma Raducanu in a high quality, three set match.

In her second match, Andreescu upset #7 seed Maria Sakkari in a great performance. It was her first Top 10 win since the fall of last year, and this type of win is definitely the type that Andreescu is looking for to boost her momentum and confidence.

A ket for Andreescu: having fun.

Bianca seems to be enjoying her time at the tournaments she is playing, routinely tweeting about the tennis she is watching while not playing (a good sign) and making jokes showing that she’s keeping things light.

After beating Sofia Kenin in the R32, Andreescu is set to play 18 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the Round of 16.

Andreescu is looking confident, focused, and energized as she marches through these matches in Miami. She knows that when she is playing her best, she can challenge anyone on tour.

This run in Miami is great to see, and we’ll see how far she can take it.
